The top 10 players in the history of the sport are divided into four categories.
There are the stars and the big names who have won the major honours in the sport.
Then there are the players who have been there, done that and who are now at the pinnacle of their game.
The last player in the top 10 was Wayne Rooney.
A world record goal scorer who made it to the Champions League final for England, Rooney’s career was marked by a lack of consistency and a failure to win a trophy.
He was also a divisive figure within the club, which he left in 2011 after being voted the greatest player of all time by the BBC Sport staff.
But the legend who helped transform the game has a new lease of life in the Premier League, with a new coach and a renewed interest in him as a key figure in the formation of a new generation of England players.
As a footballer, Rooney has had a massive impact on English football.
He was a regular in the side for almost 10 years, scoring goals in the biggest games in the competition, winning trophies and winning the Ballon d’Or.
But it was the last few years when Rooney has really shone.
In that period, he scored 19 goals in 21 games for Manchester United, helping them to the Premier Cup final and the Champions league final.
It was a remarkable feat and Rooney became a major player in English football for decades.
It was the kind of achievement that would make any footballer feel like a hero, said Jonathan Pearce of the official Guinness Book of World Records.
It’s difficult to see the future for England now.
We need to make sure we’re getting the right players, the right manager and the right people, said Pearce, whose own career has taken a huge hit following a failed bid to play for England in the 2022 World Cup.
The biggest footballers who have gone to the pinnacle, Wayne Rooney and Jamie Vardy, have become a new type of legend.
But he’s not finished yet.
He still needs to become a better goalkeeper, he still needs the support of his family, Pearce added.
And what about that record?
He has the records to prove it, too.
It might be difficult to put the ball in the net with your foot, but Wayne Rooney has never conceded a goal with his left foot.
And he’s never missed a penalty with his right foot.
And he has won every major footballing award for his performances, from the Ballons d’Ors to the FA Cup, the European Championship, the Champions Cup and the Premier Leagues.
In his prime, Rooney scored more goals than any other player in world football.
In the Premier league alone, he has scored more than 1,000 goals in his career.
The most important thing about Wayne Rooney is that he is the most talented footballer in the game, Pearce said.
That’s a great story, but we know he’s still learning how to do that.
